Who We Are:

Bronx Writing Academy, established in 2004 as part of the Jordan L. Mott Campus restructure, is a United Community Middle School catering to students in grades 6th-8th.

Our mission is for every student to become an outstanding citizen, learner and writer who celebrates and respects everyone's culture and values.

At BWA we listen attentively to every voice, we work together and work hard in a safe  haven, we ask challenging questions, think critically, and embrace innovation. We are working to achieve extraordinary things for our school, community, and world by making conscientious and informed decisions.

BWA EVENTS:

Families!

It is with great pleasure that I share our schedule will be changing this upcoming year! We came to this decision with your children in mind first and foremost. Four days a week we will be extending our school day from 2:40-3:05. This will allow us to extend all core classes so that they are 65 minutes of uninterrupted instruction giving students more  time to master content and skills. Wednesdays will be slightly shorter for your children with a 1:20 dismissal. This opens up an opportunity for families to meet with teachers on Wednesday afternoons. It also creates a space for teacher professional learning. We assure you that these changes will not impact learning negatively. We believe this will serve your children even better. We also assure that after school activities (both through BWA and LeAp) will still be available for anyone who wants to participate.  We hope you understand and support the changes we made to better serve our community. Should you have any questions or concerns you can email us or call the school. We will be having town halls to further discuss this the last week of August. Looking forward to a productive year.

Yours in partnership,

Principal Hasson
